Prince George's County, MD—Adult Programs


Description

The Morning Milers walking group met three days per week for 1.5 hours each day. These committed, mature adults were very receptive to education on heart-healthy eating, blood pressure and other health topics when combined with physical activity. Adult yoga class members also were interested in health and nutrition information along with physical activity. A popular addition included breast cancer awareness workshops combined with other healthy lifestyle information.

A women's health workshop, complete with gift bags containing information on healthy food choices.

Performance Measures

Morning Milers
Participants showed significant improvement in heart-healthy eating knowledge, overweight/obesity knowledge, heart-healthy eating attitude, overweight/obesity attitude, heart-healthy eating behavior, physical activity level, physical activity attitude, physical activity knowledge, high blood pressure knowledge, cholesterol knowledge, and FIT score. SIT score showed moderate improvement.

Yoga
Participants showed significant improvement in heart-healthy eating knowledge, overweight/obesity knowledge, heart-healthy eating attitude, overweight/obesity attitude, heart-healthy eating behavior, physical activity knowledge, high blood pressure knowledge, cholesterol knowledge, and SIT score. Other improvements were observed in physical activity level and attitude, as well as FIT score.
