Homewood, IL—Youth Programs

Description

The Stomping Grounds camp focused on physical activity for children entering first and second grades. The children participated in daily physical activities and games, as well as weekly walks using pedometers to measure their distance. One of the children's favorite games was "Dragon's Tail," a running tag game. The camp ended with an Olympic Day. The Extra Innings after-school program targeted children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The children participated in weekly heart-healthy eating games and discussions led by a local nutritionist. One of the children's favorite activities was a version of the game "Red Light, Green Light" using healthy foods and non-healthy foods. The children also received healthy snacks during the program.
