Montgomery County, MD—Adult Programs

Description

Participants in the Healthy Seniors program attended weekly exercise classes for 45 minutes. The classes included low impact exercise for cardiovascular health, as well as strengthening and toning exercises with resistance bands. In addition, participants attended a nutrition presentation and a healthy cooking class, given by a local dietitian. Participants in the Recreation Walk Across America program focused on physical activity, blood pressure, and nutrition. Pedometers were given to participants to record the number of steps they walked each day with a goal of walking 500,000 steps in 7 weeks. Each week, nutrition, health, and physical fitness tips and information were emailed to participants. The first three participants to walk across America and reach the goal received a gift certificate to Sports Authority.
