Phoenix, AZ —Youth Programs

Description

Phoenix youth were introduced to the Hearts N' Parks summer and fall programs through CATCH activities, heart-healthy eating lessons, distribution of healthy snacks, food demonstrations, hiking, outdoor adventures, non-traditional physical activities and gymnasium and playground activities. Partners such as the Arizona Nutrition Network and Wonderful Outdoor World (WOW) have allowed the City of Phoenix to expand Hearts N’ Parks programming efforts this year. For example, participants in the WOW program learned about camping, fishing, water conservation, heart-healthy eating, and the benefits of physical activity. The Hearts N' Parks youth program will continue to grow as we garner more resources and expand the services currently being provided to our community.

PAC Summer Nutrition
Participants showed a working knowledge of heart-healthy eating in the pre- and post-questionnaires. Changes from pre- to post-questionnaire were observed in heart-healthy eating attitude. In the post-questionnaire, most participants chose fruit juice, and low-fat or fat-free milk rather than soda or regular milk.
