Rio Rancho, NM—Youth Programs

Description

Hearts N' Parks was implemented in an After School Recreation Club for children. Each week the children received heart-healthy eating materials, played a CATCH game, and took home a heart-healthy recipe for their parents. During the FunFit Festival in July, youth participated in a food guessing game, where four healthy foods and one junk food were placed under boxes. The children had to guess what the food was by touching the boxes. Participants who guessed all five foods correctly received a prize such as a jump rope or hula hoop to promote physical activity. Physical activities included potato sack races, three-legged races, and hula hoop contests for the youth.
