Savannah, GA—Adult Programs

Description

Participants in the Adult Exercise and Healthy Eating program received heart-healthy nutrition education in addition to their aerobic workouts. Each week, classes were held to discuss healthy eating habits and the importance of maintaining a healthy weight. Senior participants in the Golden Walk to Dallas program had a collective goal to “walk from Savannah, Georgia to Dallas, Texas." To meet this goal, participants walked ¼ to 3 miles per day on a course. All seniors completed the program and the goal was met! Other physical activities included utilizing fitness equipment such as exercise bikes and treadmills on a daily basis, and a weekly chair aerobics class. The Chatham County Extension Service provided heart-healthy eating and health education. The seniors also participated in the community summer Fun Walk and Health Fair. Walkers received T-shirts, sports bottles, and healthy snacks.
