The Lean Mean Lifeguard Machine program targeted lifeguards from the ages of 17 to 45. The program focused on heart-healthy eating and physical activity. The lifeguards received lessons about the USDA Food Guide Pyramid and prepared a heart-healthy dish to share at a weekly potluck lunch.
The Senior Fit program – also known as People with Arthritis Can Exercise (PACE), targeted older adults who attended an existing Nutrition Lunch program. The seniors were encouraged to participate in this program three times per week to improve balance and coordination, as well as to strengthen muscles. The participants were very enthusiastic about this program and looked forward to it each day.
