Description
Children in the Kids' World summer camp participated in physical activities such as a weekly one-hour aerobics class, CATCH games, skeleton relay races, and swimming. Special physical activities included a trip to the skateboard park and a fine art dance program. In addition, a guest speaker used fat and muscle models to teach participants about the body. The children also learned about heart-healthy eating through playing a food pyramid bingo game two times per week, constructing a healthy food collage out of magazine pictures, and playing the “Go, Slow, Whoa" food relay game from the 4th grade CATCH curriculum book, "Taking Off." Campers also made their favorite foods out of clay, created a healthy meal from grocery ads, and made a healthy balloon buddy using fruits and vegetables for the eyes and ears. Every day, participants received healthy snacks.
Children in the Summer Fun Learning Camp participated in volleyball, floor hockey, soccer, basketball, tennis, swimming, relay games, and aerobics on a daily basis for one hour.
The children learned about heart-healthy eating from a guest speaker, and played food pyramid games, food color matching games, as well as personality pizza and hamburger games. Each week, the children produced a healthy food/meal snack based on a particular theme. For example, for salad bowl week, each child brought in a different type of salad. The children also produced weekly recipes that they took home and shared with their families.
