Marine Corps. - Kaneohe Bay, HI —Youth Programs

Description

Children in the A Plus YA-1 program participated in activities that focused on heart-healthy eating and physical activity. Each week, discussions were held on various topics such as the USDA Food Guide Pyramid, serving sizes and food labels, eating a variety of foods from each food group, and choosing foods that are lower in saturated fat and cholesterol. The children also participated in discussions on overweight, obesity, diabetes, and high blood cholesterol. Reviewing ingredients and nutrient content on healthy packaged snack labels reinforced the discussions. The children also participated in CATCH and other active games each week.
