Marine Corps. - Cherry Point, NC —Youth Programs


Description

The youth programs primarily focused on heart-healthy eating. The children learned about the USDA Food Guide Pyramid, serving sizes, and the benefits of fruits and vegetables through group activities such as CATCH games and 5 A Day Bingo. The participants also prepared healthy snacks and shakes from fresh fruits and vegetables.

Resources and materials were provided by Dole 5 A Day. Bingo and the USDA Food Guide Pyramid were utilized.

Semper Fit Health Promotion division

Helped to coordinate the curriculum, schedule, and training for the other program partners; conducted program sessions, focusing on overall nutrition and general health.

Participant scores showed improvement in heart-healthy eating knowledge, behavior, and intention.

Snack it Up
Children's scores showed significant improvement in heart-healthy eating behavior and intention. Heart-healthy eating knowledge scores also improved.
